Lenten Prayers

A Prayer for Uncertain Forgiveness

God of redemption, we ask for your help as we struggle with forgiveness. We are wounded creatures – hurt by the slings and arrows of those around us and stung by our own words and actions. How are we to open to love when our first instinct is to build a wall of protection? How are we to trust when everything tells us to cut bait and run? Yet we hear the words of Jesus, “Not seven times, but, I tell you, seventy-seven times.” We know we cannot truly forgive and bring peace to our hearts, minds, and souls without your mercy and grace. You wipe the slate clean and restore us to wholeness once again. Create in us a right spirit, O God, so we might feel the joy of forgiving and being forgiven. Amen.
